Virtual Volunteering Is Quite Satisfactory for Many

An Associated Press article about virtual volunteers caught our eye recently. Volunteers who find it difficult to be on site are finding ways to help charities online.

The virtual opportunities are growing as are the numbers of interested volunteers. VolunteerMatch says that 14 percent of its volunteer opportunities last year were virtual, compared with 1 percent in 1998.

What can you do online? How about designing a website for an organization halfway around the world; translating documents; preparing training materials; or mentoring a child?

Online volunteering might be a good option for people who need flexibility due to physical circumstances, work obligations or budget limitations.

What organizations provide online volunteer opportunities? Try the U.N. online volunteers program; Bundles of Love; InterConnection, and VolunteerMatch.
