Where to Get Help With Your 990

Wednesday April 9, 2008

There are new rules for nonprofits filing a 990 with the IRS. Here are some pertinent resources:

  • Draft instructions for Form 990 to be used for the 2008 tax year (returns filed in 2009). You can still comment on the new form until June 1, 2008, and view the instructions.

The draft instructions contain new tools to facilitate the form’s completion including a glossary of terms, a sequencing list to help nonprofits determine the order in which to fill out parts of the form, a compensation table to aid in reporting those items, and many examples.

  • A download of a webinar, sponsored by the Nonprofit Congress, and presented by Julie Flock, CPA, of Eisner LLP, is available for $25. The webinar is titled "Impacts of the new Form 990 on Accounting and Recordkeeping."

You can also download the webinar, "Moving your reporting online: e-filing 990s, 990-EZs, and 990-Ns," for $25. This webinar is also sponsored by the Nonprofit Congress and presented by Tom Pollak, of the National Center for Charitable Statistics.
