This Week's Best Links: Newman and More

Thursday October 2, 2008

Here are some of the links that I found exceptionally insightful, helpful, or inspiring this week.

  • I've been struggling with what to say about the passing of Paul Newman. I loved him as an actor but was inspired by his philanthropy. Michael Seltzer gave voice to my own thoughts with his beautiful post at Philantopic: Paul Newman: A Tribute to the Father of Consumer Philanthropy

  • The 2008 Annual Meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative took place last week. We are unabashed in our admiration for the work the Clinton Initiative is doing (see our article on the CGI). Now the CGI website has a full lineup of webcasts, podcasts, and transcripts from the 2008 meeting. Spend some time sampling it at ClintonGlobalInitiative.org

  • The Carnival of Nonprofit Consultants, hosted this week by Make it Count, has as its theme: What does it take to be a great leader? How timely can that be? One of my favorite links from this post is Jane Arsenault on the "six essential leadership skills needed to stand the test of turbulent times."

  • Blogger Rick Cohen writes one of the most incisive and information-filled posts I've seen about the economic crisis, and what it means for nonprofits. Did you know that "...banks were the second largest corporate givers to U.S. groups and beneficiaries in 2006...."? Find out more scary stuff in What the Financial Sector Meltdown Really Means for Nonprofits and Philanthropy.
