Giving Declines from Crumbling Car Makers, but Toyota Is No 'Turkey'
There is not a lot to be thankful for this week when it comes to donations to charitable causes. But, during a meltdown of the big three car makers and the loss of their millions in charitable giving, Toyota trudges on.
According to an article in the NY Times, Toyota, although suffering a slow down of sales, is still able and willing to keep charity afloat. The company likes to give to charities in the areas where it has plants (5, soon to be 6, in the U.S.), and its donations will amount to $57 million to schools, arts, environmental groups, and other charities this year. Recipients include the Detroit Science Center, the National Audubon Society, local school systems, a park, and Michigan's economic development fund.
James E. Wiseman, vice president of external affairs for Toyota, said, “There’s no way we can cover for them if their giving drops significantly, but we’re trying to do our part, and then some.”
