A Carnival of New Year's Resolutions
This week I am hosting the Carnival of Nonprofit Consultants. Since the New Year is approaching, I asked contributors to provide some New Year's resolutions, or tips for those long to-do lists we all have for 2009.
- Start with my own Bookish Resolutions for 2009 that will help you get off to a running, and well-read, start in the New Year.
- Then move on to Larry Checco's submission of 5 Resolutions for a Tough New Year to learn why and how to keep up your public presence even though the economy is tanking.
- James Berigan at Top School Fundraisers provides Top Ten School Fundraising Resolutions for 2009, including "eliminate low-participation, low income fundraisers, and replace them with higher percentage, more popular events." Berigan tells how to do that too!
- Work for a nonprofit association? Fed up with slow, painful process at your board meetings and general membership meetings? Dan Lynch gives us his New Year's Resolutions for Deliberative Assemblies.
- Josh Nelson of the Hatcher Blog suggests five resolutions that will help us get into the "new media." Do these five things and you should be good to go!
- Allison Jones of Entry Level Living writes about how to get your constituents involved in your social media. Learn why you should do this and how.
- Planning on some heavy duty donor calling in the New Year? Be sure to read Gavin Ingham's 7 Tips for Confident Cold Calling. You can easily translate these tips to your nonprofit purposes.
- Got an itch to improve the SEO of your website in the new year? Tushar Pant of the SEO Blog has compiled a list of the Top 100 Directories that you might want to get listed in. Directories provide a way to get a link back to your website and increase traffic.
- Maybe 2009 will be the year you finally create your "elevator speech." If so, bone up on how to create a good one with Create Your Elevator Speech at Terry Dean's Internet Business Coaching blog.
- Finally, Steve Cunningham, of Polar Unlimited, sends us into the New Year with a short but pithy New Year's resolution that is also a reminder of the nonprofit bottom line.
We would love to hear your resolutions for 2009. Please pass them on in the comments.
