Charles Bronfman and Jeffrey Solomon, of the Andrea and Charles Bronfman Philanthropies, present two sides of the philanthropic equation in their new book, The Art of Giving: Where the Soul Meets a Business Plan.

Joanne, thank you for sharing your informative post. I would have to agree with you on marketing efforts taking a hit when times get rough and marketing being a great place to make a donation count.
Thank you for commenting, Connie! Yes, many orgs consider money for marketing as optional in a way other parts of the budget would not be. Perhaps development people should include donations for marketing in their list of ways donors can help.
