"We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly." -- Martin Luther King, Jr.
Today, we celebrate the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the spirit of service he exemplified and inspires. It is also nearly a week since the disastrous earthquake in Haiti. These events have merged in the minds of Americans, and many of us will serve our communities even as we find ways to help with the relief efforts in Haiti.
Here is what you can do:
- Visit mlkday.gov to find MLK Day of Service projects all across the nation. Get involved today, this week, and for the future in making our communities better and more equal for all. Whether you have one hour a month or one day a week, there is something that you can do.
- Go to WhiteHouse.gov/HaitiEarthquake to find suggestions for donating to Haiti disaster relief. The actions suggested there include giving to the American Red Cross (to donate $10, text "HAITI" to "90999") and/or to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund.

It is so amazing how this latest catastrophe has boomed the mobile texting! We are living in a fast paced world. Instant earthquake, instant relief.
I would love to know the breakdown of texts per country for donations to Haiti.
