Justin Wandro of the blog, Nonprofit Success, has clearly explained how to make those tax receipts for your donors another step in the thank you and cultivation process.
Even though you've likely sent a receipt right after getting a donation, there nothing wrong with sending a year end summary to the donor as well. Wandro says that summary should meet IRS requirements and also connect with the donor.
Read Wandro's excellent instructions about how to do that. You'll also want to bookmark his blog for a steady stream of very practical advice about how to do those chores in your office that should be routine but actually bug us a lot...mail merge, anyone?
