Social entrepreneurship has been around for a long time (John Muir, for example, could be dubbed a social entrepreneur today)...it just didn't have its own name. Beginning in the 1980s, social entrepreneur was used to describe a different sort of entrepreneur. Since then the name has struggled for a definition.
