Last week, I wrote about the March of Dimes' imbornto, the cutest Mother's day campaign.
This week I'm declaring these campaigns the most moving charitable appeals for Mother's Day.
Every Child Deserves a 5th Birthday
CARE, teaming with USAID, has mounted its Every Child Deserves a 5th Birthday.
The sad fact is that more than 7 million children across the globe die before they reach five. Most of these children live in poor countries, and most of the deaths are preventable at very low cost.
CARE has a lovely video at its site, a donate now page that continues to propel one's interest, and an array of facts and stories that are bound to capture your heart. The charity urges you to donate in honor of your Mom. There is an ecard that you can send too.
Born Too Soon
A complementary campaign has been burning up the social media networks. Mounted by Save the Children, the March of Times Foundation, the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health, and The World Health Organization, Born Too Soon is the result of a report of the same name that finds that 15 million babies around the world are born prematurely. Those "too soon" births contribute massively to the death rate for children under five.
The Born Too Soon report has captured the attention of media from the BBC to the New York Times to Fox News. Save the Children has wrapped a Mother's Day charitable giving campaign around the report's release. You can choose gifts from the gift catalog or donate to the Save the Children Global Action Fund.
Follow the conversation and join in on Twitter with the hashtag #borntoosoon.
The Mother's Day season is rich in giving opportunities this year. Here's hoping that many people will respond.
