Unified Registration Statement

Definition: Most states in the U.S. regulate charitable fundraising. State laws require charities to register and to provide information about fundraising activities to the government. The National Association of Attorneys General and the National Charities Officials have developed the Unified Registration Statement (URS). The purpose of the URS is to provide a standardized reporting form for many different states.

The Multi-State Filer Project provides a wealth of information about the URS, including a checklist of initial registration requirements organized by state and detailed instructions for every secton of the statement.

Also Known As: URS
The Unified Registration Statement provides a way for nonprofits to disclose their fundraising details across numerous states.
