These Internal Revenue Service forms are filed annually by public charities and private foundations. The letters PF stand for private foundation.

Both forms list assets, receipts, expenditures and compensation of officers. Form 990-PF includes a list of grants made during the year by private foundations.

The forms can be obtained through the IRS, the charity itself, and the GuideStar website. The GuideStar website also offers a database on nonprofit organizations with information compiled from IRS filings.

Examples:
Nonprofits publicly disclose their financial information by filing form 990 or form 990-PF with the IRS.
