Opportunity International says that of the world's population living in poverty, 70 percent are women. This organization provides micro-loans to women in developing countries so that they can start their own businesses and reach economic independence. Opportunity also finds new ways of helping the poor with their finances, such as savings accounts through easy banking, A number of corporations and foundations (such as the Bill and Malinda Gates Foundation and the Caterpillar Foundation) have channeled funds though Opportunity International to help women around the world
