Question: Are there any rules about how much fundraising my nonprofit has to do?
Answer:
Actually, in a way, there is. That is because 501(c)(3) public charities are supposed to receive at least one third of their support from the general public.
Don't rely so heavily on donations from founders or board members that you forget to run a broad-based fundraising campaign to establish your public funding. Likewise, don't just go back year after year to the same foundations or corporations for income since these may not count toward your one third of public funding.
