Similar Organizations
- One of my favorite prospecting tools is to look at annual reports of similar organizations and see who's funding them, I've found several prospective funders that way.

Funders May be Lurking in Your Files
- This may not work for everyone, but if your organization has been around for a while check the "old" files. It can be a great source for funders that have funded in the past and have a mission match. Recontacting these organizations can re-open up a funding stream simply by contacting them and making an inquiry if they still fund "X" I found two funders this way and the new grants administrators were surprised that we had not requested funding. A simple and easy to do research project.

Clippings File
- I have to do things on the cheap, so I keep a clippings file. I watch newspapers, magazines, and the Internet for clues about who is funding what. I keep the files for a year and then throw them out, so the file is always current. I've found several good leads this way.
